ASHEPA Makes Bold Move, Appoints Three of Africa’s Leading Safety, Health and Environmental Professionals to Lead the Association

January 6, 2026African Safety Health and Environmental Professional Association (ASHEPA) has announced a major leadership appointment aimed at accelerating its mission to strengthen safety, health, and environmental practice across the continent.

In a decisive step to expand ASHEPA’s impact and deepen professional collaboration across Africa, the Association has appointed three highly respected industry leaders to its executive leadership:

  • Mr. Wilson Ronnie OdoomPresident
  • Mr. Bekalu Tasew TebabalVice President
  • Mr. Moges Mekonnen TemmaGeneral Secretary

The appointments reflect ASHEPA’s commitment to strong, practical leadership—leaders who understand the realities of Africa’s workplaces and who are positioned to help translate safety, health, and environmental standards into everyday results.

Leadership Focused on Growth, Value, and Sustainability

Speaking on the appointment, ASHEPA President Mr. Wilson Ronnie Odoom emphasized that his leadership will prioritize membership growth, member value, and the long-term sustainability of the Association.

“My main aim is to grow the membership of the association, ensure the membership receives the benefit of being part of this association, and ensure sustainability of the association,” Mr. Odoom said.

He added that expanding ASHEPA’s membership across Africa will make the Association’s message stronger and easier to deliver—leading directly to safer workplaces and better outcomes for workers and communities.

“If the membership grows across entire Africa, our message will be easy to carry across—meaning more and more workers will go home safe after their day activity at workplace,” he noted, highlighting sectors such as construction, mining, oil and gas, telecom deployment, factories, hospitals, and all forms of workplaces.

Why This Team Fits the Task

ASHEPA believes the new leadership team is well-positioned to advance the Association’s mission because they bring the kind of hands-on leadership needed to grow a pan-African professional network and achieve measurable change. Together, the President, Vice President, and General Secretary are expected to:

  • Strengthen member engagement and benefits by prioritizing practical professional support, knowledge-sharing, and opportunities for growth.
  • Build stronger regional networks across Africa to connect practitioners, harmonize good practices, and improve collaboration across borders.
  • Drive standards, education, and advocacy that raise the quality and consistency of SHE practice across industries.
  • Expand partnerships with stakeholders—including employers, regulators, training institutions, and sector leaders—to reduce workplace incidents, protect the environment, and support sustainable development.
  • Ensure institutional sustainability by building systems and structures that allow ASHEPA to grow steadily and serve members effectively long-term.

With renewed leadership and a clear focus on impact, ASHEPA is positioning itself to become one of Africa’s most influential professional platforms for safety, health, and environmental excellence.
